School Council

The Thomas Jones School Council consists of two children from each year group who are elected in the summer term for the following year. Children who are keen to play this role will be asked to write something very short to read to their class and elections will take place. Councillors meet twice a term to focus on key issues such as fundraising, scrutiny of books, lunches, etc., as well as to learn the skills of being a good spokesperson for their class.

Autumn 1

What is a councillor?

Introducing the role and explaining some of the main things we will be doing.  

Selling Ribbons.

Harvest collection food drop-off.

Autumn 2

Decide on a school Christmas charity and how we will raise money - this year, a second-hand book and uniform sale.

Children to share any issues from their class.

Writing Christmas cards for the elderly residents at Thomas Darby Court.

Joining the choir at Thomas Darby Court to hand out cakes and tea to elderly residents at Christmas time.

Spring 1

Scrutinising the school lunch options.

Children to discuss with their class how they feel about the lunches and anything they want to improve or change - feedback to council.

Spend time in the lunch hall seeing what children are eating.

Spring 2

Children to research ideas for the Easter holidays for their peers to engage with.
