Art and Design
At Thomas Jones, art is an important subject given significant curriculum time. It is a central strand of our integrated curriculum, appearing in all of the units taught. We believe art should be taught as a practical subject, with opportunities for pupils to make art of their own while learning about great artists working across a range of media.
The practical element of art is divided into six disciplines: drawing/line, painting/colour and tone, printing/pattern & texture, textiles, collage/paper and modelling/sculpture & form. In addition, pupils have the opportunity to study the work of key artists and movements from a range of cultures and time periods.
Over the course of their school career, pupils will have the opportunity to make educational visits to galleries and museums such as the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Design Museum, Tate Modern and Tate Britain.
