Last week, Year 5 ventured back to 1939 and transformed into World War Two child evacuees.

Before their evacuation to the country, the children listened to an encouraging speech by Winston Churchill, practised how to respond to an air raid siren and created their own name placard, in preparation of being chosen by their new families. The children then said their final farewells to Thomas Jones and made their way to Ladbroke Grove Station, for the beginning of their long journey ahead.

Sporting an array of flat caps, brown paper name tags and faux cardboard suitcases, the children immersed themselves in learning that pertained to the Blitz and evacuation. Such topic-based events are so beneficial. Employing technology, including ‘Now Press Play’, a device with precisely defined sound, can add a visceral dynamic.
