Ragged School

Last week, our Year 6 students stepped back in time to the 1880s on their visit to the Ragged School Museum. Led by the charismatic Victorian teacher, Miss Perkins, the day revolved around an authentic Victorian lesson in the museum's beautifully preserved Victorian classroom.

The pupils immersed themselves in a world where slate boards replaced notebooks and the strict discipline of a bygone era reigned supreme. Through engaging activities and hands-on participation, they discovered the stark contrasts between Victorian schooling and modern-day education. The setting and teaching methods provided an eye-opening glimpse into the lives of children in Victorian Britain, many of whom attended schools like these as their only hope for education.
The experience not only brought history to life but also fostered a deep appreciation for how education has evolved over time. Year 6 returned brimming with stories and newfound knowledge.
