Curriculum Brought to Life

Connected to the Ancient Egypt topic in Year 3, the classroom was transformed into an ibw (ibu) - the sacred "Place of Purification".

In Ancient Egyptian times, this was a temporary tent constructed on the edge of the Nile for the purposes of mummification. The priestess of the ibw and her helpers carried out a step-by- step mummification which involved the removal of organs, canopic jars, natron salt and of course bandages. All suspended their disbelief and were readily transported back 4,000 years to observe this gruesome process carried out by lantern light.
